At Halloween time, the custom of wearing Halloween costumes was started in the distant past. It was believed by the people from olden days that the barrier between the physical and spiritual realms would breakdown that day, allowing many evil spirits to come back from the dead and cause mischief and mayhem amongst the living. So people would customarily dress themselves up in costumes, masks and make-up to confuse the spirits, and, hopefully, hide their identity. Supposedly, they were disguising themselves as the dead, and dressing themselves as ghosts, zombies, and demons.
Those classic scary costumes are still popular today, and people have made quite a list of monsters, vampires, witches, and mummies definitely keeping the scariness in their Halloween costumes. However there are film stars, cowboys, pumpkins, cheerleaders, football players, and humorous mockeries of celebrities that have made the Halloween holiday so much more fun!
